This is our first true hunting knife, built upon centuries of the
knife-making art in our part of the world. This strong, straight and
very handy knife dates its origin from the ancient times of
North-Scandinavian knife-making. Due to this heritage, it lacks a
standard finger guard, but the grip safety is enhanced by the
ergonomically shaped handle made of Thermorun plastic with a textured
pattern. With a handle this shape, you should be an experienced hunter
or outdoorsman to ensure you can safely handle such a classic yet
advanced design as the H1 Hunting Knife.
Sheaths
Zytel sheaths is an injection molded, super strong zytel sheath. The
benefit is that the zytel sheath can easily be cleaned.
Steel
The blade for the H1 has previously been manufactured from Stainless
Laminated VG10 steel. We have used this steel for many years and are
very satisfied with its strength and edge retention. It is heat treated
and tempered to 59 HRC, in an excellent combination of strength and
sharpness. Tests at the Solid Mechanic Laboratory of Lulea University of
Technology show that this steel is among the strongest in the world.
However, since October 2006 we offer this knife with the famous 3G steel,
a laminated powder steel which we believe is the best steel in the world.
Blade function
The design of the H1 blade is special, so let us comment on its shape.
First of all, a hunting knife may look very different and still work
very well - in many respects it depends on the person actually holding
the knife as to how it will perform. If you don't know how to place the
correct incision into game, it doesn't matter what kind of knife you're
working with. It will end up in bad cuts, hair on the meat, thru-cut
body membranes and blood all over the game and you. However, the
combination of a skilled hunter and a well-designed knife is unbeatable!
The incisions are well placed, the game is clean with hair only on the
outside, no cuts into the meat, etc.
Blade design
The optimal hunting knife looks like the Model H1! It's rubbish to say
that hunting knives should have blades at lengths of 2". We say that the
perfect length is around 4-5" - just take a look at the equipment of a
professional butcher! Still, the length must be combined with a design
which offers both a long, effective skinning edge and - very importantly
- a tip which is shaped for penetration performance, because a knife has
two functions, the edge and the tip. The tip of this knife is designed
for penetrating the hide without cutting into the meat when you start
skinning your game.
Trendsetter
The Model H1 will surely be your first choice for such use, as
everything on this knife is matched for maximum capability in countless
situations: the sharp, strong and tough steel, the 0.2" blade thickness,
the razor-sharp convex-ground blade, the straight, ergonomic handle in
tacky Kraton rubber, and the extremely compact size. Among experienced
hunters and true outdoorsmen the H1 Hunting Knife will become the
obvious choice; the lack of finger guards is no loss for those who can
handle a knife.
